ABAA Outreach

ABAA had been to Neev - Indiranagar to introduce kids to astronomy and show them Venus and Moon through the telescope. The talk soon converted into a interactive session with kids asking and sharing their understanding of astronomy. Its amazing how much kids know. After the talk kids enjoyed the view of Venus and Moon through the telescope.

ABAA conducts outreach programs from time to time in schools and colleges to create awareness and help students understanding Astronomy and Telescopes better.

Here are few photos we want to share with you of the session.

COORG SKY SHOW

The Sky show at Field Marshal Cariappa College, Madikeri, on 29th and 30th December 2009 was mixed bag. It was an event managed by TEAM ABAA, with lecture by Chandrashekar, on Guide to night sky as a part of International inter-disciplinary conference of Astronomy.

Weather god did not permit us to do the show on day one. In fact it was raining...!!!

Day 2 was better with sky clearing up for about 2 hours after Sunset and we were able to show 300+ public the Moon & Jupiter.

People and the organizers were really pleased at the end of the show and have promised to have more sky shows in co ordination with ABAA.

2 telescopes were used, 8 inch Schmidt-Cassegrain and 4 inch refractor.

All in all a satisfactory outreach to the public of Madikeri.

TEAM ABAA: prakash subbanna, chandrashekar, anil and Mani.

ABAA outreach at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya

What more can one ask for? A field filled with kids lined up to take a glimpse at the biggest planet in the solar system, bursting with energy, waiting in long lines and in the cold evening, to see the sparkle in their eyes after seeing the Giant planet, the questions on the bands on Jupiter, the moons, the solar system. Volunteers of ABAA and teachers answering all the questions and explaining the concepts, with equal enthusiasm and energy, kid after kid, questions after questions.

This was the atmosphere at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Dodballapur, where ABAA conducted the outreach program on December 11th, Friday.

Telescopes were setup and were aimed at Jupiter, 400 students lined up and patiently waited for their turn, one by one they saw the Giant planet and were amazed at the sight. Students enjoyed the bands on the planet and the four moons of Jupiter. After observing the planet the students had million questions, these were answered by the volunteers and teachers present there.

Later, when all the students finished observing Jupiter, teachers observed through the telescopes and a very good interactive session took place on telescopes and astronomy.

If there is anything more one could ask for, is....more of these kinds of programs....
